Russia

$150,000 was raised in the month of December

Your generosity  is supporting the ongoing translation of the bible into modern Russian – into a text that is clear and understandable for contemporary readers. This translation will overcome a real obstacle in spreading the Good News in Russia – Scriptures in out-of-date language. So far, the New Testament and 14 books of the Old Testament have been completed.

Nepal

$135,000 expected revenue in the month of November

Because of your support, the Bible Society has three current ongoing translation projects. And despise political instability, the Society was able to distribute over 1.4 million copies of Scriptures last year alone. After the first-ever public celebration of Christmas in 2008, there was an opportunity to distribute over 31,000 copies of the Surprising but True Easter booklet throughout the country.

China

$164,183 was raised in the month of October.

Thanks to your support, for the first time since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, an East Lisu New Testament has been published and distributed successfully. And the Miao people who live in the Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan Provinces finally received the entire Bible in their own language. You supported the Amity Printing Press, subsidizing the cost of huge rolls of paper that they used to print the Bibles, making Bibles affordable for Chinese Christians, especially those

Mozambique

$147,629 was raised in the month of September

The Christians in this small country in southeast Africa are grateful for your help. You are supporting translation projects that will bring the complete Bible to the Elomwe, Gitonga, Makhuwa and Xirhonga people. It is your gifts that help bring the Talking Bible to people in the rural areas of Mozambique. Since many can’t read or write, this is really the only way they can engage with God’s Word. Please pray that, as they listen, the people will come to know the comfort and hope found in His Word.

Bolivia

$135,779 was raised in the month of August

Thanks to your help, the 1.6 million Aymara-speaking people of Bolivia now have the revised Bible in their unique new alphabet. God bless you for your support of projects like this. Please pray that the revised Aymara Bible and Study Bible will be ready soon for those who are eagerly waiting. The beneficiaries of this project will include abandoned children, youth who need to find purpose in their lives, and adults in need of the counsel and hope found in the Bible. Our goal is to provide nearly 2.5 million people with the Scriptures in a format that is appropriate for them.



Canada

$148,613 was raised in the month of July

We are grateful for your support of the work here at home. Our prison ministry continued to bring  hope and change lives through the provision of God’s life-giving Word. With your help, newcomers to Canada found encouragement when they received Word of Welcome Bibles at English as a Second Language courses. Our soldiers have found comfort and strength in the Bibles we have made available to them. Please pray that the resources we have produced for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics will impact many lives.

Ghana

$126,887 was raised in the month of June

Your support helped the Bible Society of Ghana reach the half-way mark of its project One Million Jubilee Bibles to Junior High School Pupils. You also helped to set up over 1,800 new Faith Comes By Hearing listening groups and programs in rural areas of the country for churches, prisons, storyteller groups, youth clubs, and many other groups and organizations. Audio Scriptures are available in eight different Ghanaian languages. The introduction of “Proclaimer” devices that don’t need batteries has revolutionized the listening programs.

Ukraine

$152,231 was raised in the month of May

Thanks to you, the Bible Society has been able to reach out to those who are often sidelined by society – people with disabilities. They received a special illustrated edition of the New Testament with Psalms which is a gift that shows a real expression of caring. Also, because of your help, the translation of the Old Testament into modern Ukrainian will be completed in 2010, marking the culmination of 25 years of work. With a rising crime rate, prisons, detention facilities and penitentiaries have become a major focus of Bible distribution.
